Cardamom ( Elaichi ) Latin Name : Elettaria Cardamomum Hindi Name : Elaichi Part Used : Seeds, Oil This plant is cultivated throughout India. This plant is 1.5-5 meters tall, perennial with subterranean branching roots. The fruits are trilocular, oval capsules marked by fine vertical ribs. There are about 15-20 brownish black seeds per pod and are covered by a thin mucilaginous membrane. Properties The seeds are aromatic, sweet cooling, carminative (cures flatulence), digestive, stimulant and tonic. Uses Cardamom finds usage in indigestion, anorexia, burning sensation, debility, asthma, and bronchitis. |
