Latin Name : Cuminum Cyminum Hindi : Jeera, Saphed Jeera Part Used : Fruit This plant is cultivated throughout India. The plant is an annual herb about a foot tall with branched stems. The flowers are small white or rose coloured. Fruits are grayish and taper towards both ends. Properties The fruits are sweet, cooling, astringent, digestive, anti inflammatory, carminative (cures flatulence), nervine stimulant, constipating, and tonic. Uses Jeera or cumin finds use in curing indigestion, flatulence, chronic diarrhoea, vomiting, anorexia, hiccups, cough, ulcers, general debility and colic. |
