It is a slender perennial herb, with long linear leaves. Flowers grow in oblong, spikes and are ensheathed and are greenish yellow in colour. Fruits are oblong capsules. Rhizomes are white to yellowish brown, irregularly branched somewhat laterally flattened. A few scales cover the growing tips. The surface of the rhizome is smooth.

Properties And Uses

Raw ginger is thermogenic, anti flatulent, appetiser, digestive and laxative. It is used in anorexia, flatulence, indigestion, cold, cough and inflammations.

Dried ginger is thermogenic, appetiser, laxative, expectorant, stimulant, cures stomach disorders. Dried ginger is used as a remedy to cure cold, cough, cholera, nausea and vomiting, inflammations, diarrhoea, colic, flatulence, anorexia, asthma and headaches.
